i've been trying to get here all night to post updates and pictures, but i have been thwarted by slow connections, kids waking up, answering emails, and oh yeah! my new favorite author's website. (stephenie meyer) she has the equivalent of a dvd full of extras on her site. actually no, it is way more than the extras you get on a dvd. it is fabulous and addicting and as todd and rachel feverishly read harry potter i am sitting here, in front of the computer, my eyes are burning, and yet i keep reading outtakes and background information on two books that i have read in the last two weeks, both being over 500 pages and anxiously await the arrival of book three august 7th. the woman is going to kill me! she has no intention of slowing down and keeps on writing about these characters and i fear that my house work and lesson plans will never be done if she keeps having books published.
so, i've been sidetracked. pictures and updates tomorrow.

my favorite holiday
i have decided that the fourth of july is my favorite holiday. this year "sealed the deal" for me. it was a great holiday. we started our celebrating on the the third. we went to the local city park for their "sparks in the park" event - food, moonwalks, concert, fireworks & outdoor movie. we set up our blankets and chairs on one of the ball fields, between second and third base, at KFC chicken, played frisbee, waited in lines to have xander take a turn on the mega inflatable slide (he was a pro!) and an even longer line to get funnel cake! we had a great time. got their before the huge crowds and completely enjoyed the outdoors. xander has a fear of fireworks. has hated them and been terrified of them for the last three years. my intention was to get there early enough to have a semi-close parking space, so we could sit in the car and watch the fireworks with the radio up. that didn't work out. but grandma little brought ear plugs, which he gladly put in his ears thirty minutes before they were scheduled to start. we also gave him sprite, which todd told him made him brave. he kept in the ear plugs, covered his head with cassidy's blanket and then put his hands over his ears. but after a little coaxing from todd he peeked at the sky. the fireworks were being set off directly in front of us at the back of left field. we had perfect seats for the show. i loved it! xander liked it. and cassidy fell asleep during it. if you ask xander, he'd tell you that his favorite ones were "the christmas ones - red & green." we stayed for the movie after and did not get home until midnight.
the fourth dawned very early, early enough for us to make it to the ward pancake breakfast and parade. participants decorated bikes, trikes, scooters and wagons ...xander loved it so much that he did the parade route 3 times by himself. we spent the late afternoon eating and swimming at a friend's pool with several families from church, and then ended the evening early at home. xander had no desire to see anymore fireworks. he had filled his quota the night before, but todd and i sat on our front porch and watched the fireworks that the neighbors down the street were lighting, as well as two close subdivisions displays. it was good enough for me, and all from the comfort of my home.
pics to follow....as soon as i can link to todd's computer. it is being temperamental now.

family pictures from disney

pretty much the only two "family" pictures that were taken at Disney. one by a staff member and the other with the timer on the camera. xander was so excited to meet Buzz. check it out, he is even standing like him! oh, and the baseball field is at Wide World of Sports, it is where the Atlanta Braves do their spring training. xander told me "mom, i'm gonna play on this field when i get bigger."
next time, more pictures! and definitely more family pictures.
here's the first update
so, i am thinking i should try to update this thing about once a week. sundays might be a good time to do it. then you only have to check it once a week if you want to keep up with what is going on. don't hold me to this, i'll do my best. but as you know life goes on and doesn't always allow for small things like sitting in front of the computer for more than two minutes.
so, as life goes....
about five weeks ago we went to disney world. we had a great time. learned some new things, like not ot wear the kids out too fast too soon. but they were overall really good. cassidy was an angel and just rolled with the punches, even when xander would volunteer her to be carried while he rod in the stroller. it was a lot of walking for him and he asked for the stroller or to be carried often. but i think he had a good time. he wasn't too concerned with the characters around the park. EXCEPT for woody and buzz. we found them early in the morning so there wasn't a long line to see them. we waited about 15 minutes and he shook their hand and got his picture taken. no autographs. we didn't have the book with us yet. we weren't prepared. we never did see mickey or minnie in the parks. only in toon town where the wait was over an hour and a half long. he didn't want it that badly. but if you asked him he would tell you that the barnstormer kiddie roller coaster made him crazy and that he won the piston cup like lightning mcqueen on the race track. we are definitely planning another trip soon.
then about four weeks ago, as we got back from disney todd lost his job. things just weren't working out where he was at. but he didn't see it coming like this. so, he is looking for a new one. many applications out, just hoping to hear responses soon! it has been and is getting stressful and frustrating.
i am working pretty much full time for the summer at the school. i am a sub - so i go where they put me. the last few weeks they have been sending me on field trips with the older kids and rachel. yup, she goes too. don't worry. we behave ourselves. i have also been in the pre-k classroom, the kitchen as the cook, and xander's classroom. still five more weeks of summer, so who knows where i'll be for all of that. school starts back august 9th, and then my regular hours, regular classroom and regular pay will start again. that will help some of the stress. i'm also still trying to teach scrapbook classes and do scrapbook events where i can get some business. i'm about to make sets of cards and try to sell those. ideas to try to make a few more dollars to pay the bills.
xander and cassidy have been going to school all summer. we have had a day off each week and have done the water fountain park, a pool and a free movie. hopefully we can do some fun things to make it feel like summer. they both really enjoy being outside. even in the heat. cassidy is standing up on everything and even trying to climb the stairs. however, where i don't remember worrying about xander falling as much she hasn't quite got the understanding that if you don't keep moving up inevitably you will go down. so we may need a gate at the bottom of the stairs for her. she has two top teeth coming in. and they have really been a pain this time, keeping her up at night. not pleasant, considering she typically falls alseep around 8:30pm and i don't hear from her again until 6:00am. i'm spoiled. she'll be a year old in a month....
so there is a quick update. no plans for "the fourth" yet. still trying to figure out where we can go to see fireworks without hearing them. xander really, really, really doesn't like them.
well, since is saturday i may not pop up here for another week. but who knows, maybe i'll surprise you!
oh did i mention that i am wishing i was home....in maynard? yup. been homesick for a while and can't seem to shake it. i'm looking forward to planning a trip for thanksgiving or christmas. i've already started talking to michael about christmas. we need to decide now, so we all end up there together.

jumping on the blog bandwagon
hello all.
i have been needing to update all of you about what is going on here in the south. i was playing around tonight and decided to start a blog. what is the difference between a blog and sending emial updates you ask. truth be known, i haven't a clue. excpet fo the fact that after i make the effort to update my blog you make the effort to check it out periodically to see if i have written or shared anything new.
well, yes, an update is in order, especially with pictures of our trip to disney - but that will have to wait til tomorrow, cause i am tired!
so, here is me jumping on the bandwagon and then jumping into bed. til later...
